Gopalpur Police Arrest Man for Alleged Stalking, House Trespass and Criminal Intimidation

Brahmapur, Oct. 6: Gopalpur Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with an alleged case of stalking, house trespass, criminal intimidation and assault involving a 20-year-old college student at Venkatraipur under Gopalpur Police Station.
The accused has been identified as Raju Nayak (30), of Venkatraipur village under Gopalpur Police Station. He was arrested on October 5 and subsequently forwarded to the court of the JMFC (R), Cognizance, Brahmapur, with a prayer for 14 days of judicial custody.
According to Mr.Satya Ranjan, the IIC, the case was registered on October 5 at around 11:45 AM on the strength of written complaint of K. Laxmi (40) of Venkatraipur.
The case was registered under Sections 329(3)/333/78/296/115(2)/351(3) of the BNS, and an probe was initiated.
During the investigation, police allegedly found that the accused had been following the complainant’s 20-year-old daughter for several days while she was travelling to and returning from college.
Police said that at around 8:30 AM on October 5, the accused allegedly entered the rear side of the complainant’s house with the ill intention of catching hold of the girl. On noticing the fellow , the girl soughted an alarm and ran outside to keep her in safe (!)
Hearing her cries, the complainant and neighbours rushed to the spot, following which the accused allegedly fled.
Later, at around 11:00 AM, the complainant, accompanied by her husband and others, went to the accused’s house to question him about the incident.
During the confrontation, the accused allegedly abused them in filthy and obscene language and attempted to assault them with a wooden stick.
As part of the investigation, police examined the complainant, visited the scene, and recorded the statements of eyewitnesses and seizure witnesses under Section 180 BNSS. Police also seized one wooden stick, allegedly used in the incident, from the possession of the accused under a proper seizure sheet.
Police stated that prima-facie evidence was established against Raju Nayak under the sections invoked in the case. He was arrested on October 5 after completion of the required legal formalities. The grounds of arrest were communicated to him in writing, and he was medically examined before being forwarded to the court.
The court proceedings will determine the further course of the case.
