Golanthara Police Bust Inter-State Dacoity Gang; Four Arrested, Rs.6.92 Lakh Recovered

Golanthara, August 16, 2026: Golanthara Police have busted an organised inter-state dacoity gang operating across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and arrested four persons in connection with a daylight robbery committed under the guise of a land deal. Police have recovered Rs.6.92 lakh in robbed cash, 14 mobile phones, a Wi-Fi device, two fake number plates, an Innova car and eight fake gold pieces.
The case was registered as Golanthara P.S. Case No. 316 dated August 10, 2026, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Prabhu Swain (40), son of Dibani Swain of Hanspur village under Chhatrapur.
According to the complaint, Swain was called to Chati Chowk on the afternoon of August 10 by one Subramaneswaram Reddy of Visakhapatnam on the pretext of receiving an advance payment of Rs 35 lakh towards a land purchase. When he reached the spot, a group of persons arrived in an Innova car, allegedly snatched his cash bag and mobile phone and fled from the scene.
During spot inspection, police recovered a laminated photocopy of an Aadhaar card in the name of B. Trinath Rao, which provided an important lead in the investigation. Two police The accused were arrested on August 15. They have been identified as:
P. Lokanath @ Surya (46) of Madhurwada, Visakhapatnam.
Y. Rabindra Babu (37) of Anandapuram, Visakhapatnam.
Badri Trinath Rao (55) of Kapustreet, Ganjam.
Vulla Satyanarayan (45) of Gajuwaka, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Police investigation has revealed that the accused allegedly operated as an organised inter-state gang targeting people by offering land and gold at highly discounted prices.

Victims were reportedly lured to isolated locations and robbed of cash and valuables.
Investigators further found that the gang allegedly used a police siren to create confusion and prevent public interference, while also changing vehicle number plates to evade detection.
The seized articles include Rs.6.92 lakh in cash, 14 mobile phones, one Wi-Fi device, two fake number plates, one Innova car bearing registration No. AP 31 BP 2828 and eight fake gold pieces.
All four accused have been arrested under Sections 310(6), 111(3) and 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and produced before the learned Judicial Magistrate First Class (Rural), Court of Cog. Taking, Berhampur, for judicial remand.
The prompt and coordinated investigation by the Golanthara Police team led to the detection of the case and arrest of the accused within a short period. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the gang’s involvement in similar cases in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
