Ganjam Pays Tribute to Kargil Heroes on 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas

BERHAMPUR, July 27: Ganjam district paid heartfelt tribute to its brave sons who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War as the nation observed the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Sunday.

Villagers, ex-servicemen, public representatives, and police officials gathered at Jagdalpur and Kamalapur villages to honour the supreme sacrifice of Martyr Srinibash Patra of Jagdalpur and Martyr M. Krishna Rao of Kamalapur, who gave their lives while defending the nation’s borders during the Kargil conflict.

A solemn memorial function was organised at Jagdalpur, where local MLA Sidhant Mohapatra led the tributes by offering floral wreaths at the martyr’s memorial.

The programme was attended by villagers, ex-servicemen, police officers, social activists, and family members of the fallen soldier, who remembered his courage and patriotism.

Speakers at the event recalled the unparalleled bravery of the Kargil heroes and urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from their sacrifice and dedication to the nation.

Across the country, India observed the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the historic victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the three-month-long Kargil War fought in the rugged mountains of Ladakh in 1999. The day is dedicated to the brave soldiers who defended the nation’s sovereignty at the cost of their lives.

In Bhubaneswar, Odisha joined the nationwide observance with Hari Babu Kambhampati, Mohan Charan Majhi, senior government officials, defence personnel, and citizens paying rich tributes to the martyrs. They praised the unwavering courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the armed forces, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to honouring its heroes.

The commemorative events across Ganjam and Odisha reflected the enduring gratitude of the people towards the brave soldiers whose sacrifice continues to inspire generations and strengthen the spirit of patriotism across the country.
