Brahmapur, October 31: The Odisha Government has sanctioned an additional Rs 20 crore to Ganjam district to intensify disaster response, rescue and relief operations in the wake of the flood situation triggered by Cyclonic Storm ‘Arnab’.

According to a post on the official X handle of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the additional financial assistance has been released to support ongoing relief and disaster management activities across the affected areas of the district.

The decision came shortly after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Ganjam and Gajapati districts to assess the extent of damage caused by the cyclone and subsequent flooding.

Ganjam is among the districts severely affected by torrential rainfall and the resulting rise in water levels in rivers and other water bodies, leading to inundation in several localities and disruption of normal life.

The additional allocation is expected to strengthen ongoing rescue and evacuation operations, ensure the timely distribution of essential relief materials, provide medical assistance to affected people and facilitate the restoration of essential services and road connectivity.

The district administration, in coordination with disaster response teams and other government agencies, is continuing relief and rehabilitation measures, with priority being accorded to the safety and immediate needs of people affected by the floods.
