Excise Superintendent Rourkela Under Vigilance Scanner; Rs.5 Lakh Cash Seized

Rourkela, September 11, 2026:In a significant anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance on Friday intercepted a vehicle in front of the Excise Superintendent’s Office at Uditnagar, Rourkela, and seized 5 lakh in cash allegedly being sent to the residence of Excise Superintendent Dhaneswar Barad.

According to Odisha Vigilance, the operation was conducted following reliable inputs that the Excise Superintendent had allegedly collected substantial bribe money from excise licencees.

Based on the information, a Vigilance team had been keeping watch on the officer.

The Vigilance team intercepted a Scorpio bearing registration number OD-14AD-1314 in front of the Excise Superintendent’s Office.

 During the interception, the team recovered  Rs.5,00,000 in cash in the presence of witnesses.

The cash was allegedly being carried by a salesman of a local wine shop. During questioning, the salesman reportedly stated that the money had been given to him by Excise Superintendent Dhaneswar Barad for delivery at the officer’s residence.

Odisha Vigilance further stated that, when confronted with the recovery and the statement of the salesman, Superintendent Barad also admitted that the cash had been given for delivery to his residence.

The officer allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source and intended purpose of the  Rs.5 lakh, following which the cash was seized by the Vigilance team.

In connection with the incident, Rourkela Vigilance Police Station Case No. 12 dated September 11, 2026 has been registered under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Odisha Vigilance has also launched searches at the officer’s office and residential premises as part of the investigation from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
