Drop Out Bleak Quality Education in Odisha
Paralakhemundi:High school dropout rates in Odisha have hovered around 15%, with the crisis hitting Class 9 and 10 students the hardest. Poor infrastructure, teacher shortages, and deep rural poverty drive students away. The state is fighting this with door-to-door re-enrollment campaigns and financial aid for vulnerable students.
As per UDISE(United Dropout Information on School Education)Report dropout is receding in Odisha. That shows hesitation on quality education to empower students. As per provided statistics in Odisha during 2023-24 session dropout was 9.1℅,where on 2024-25 revised to 9.8℅.Where as on national level the same found 10.9℅ during 2023-24,2024-25 reduced to 8.2℅ & 7℅ on 2025-26.
Root causes of variances on dropout due to engagement of teachers with non-teaching activities. That flayed havoc on regular classes.Again coming on our state’s allocation of total 61,594 schools 77,88,567 students are enrolled for studies. On 2024-25 teacher & students ratio found 1:1089 & on 2025-26 ratio is 1:1458.How can legitimate on quality education can be ensured that broadened severe quarries.Actually on an avarage 1:40/50 as per teacher & students ratio can reach quality assurance & teachings. But massive gap on teachers posting flawed jinx on standard of education.
Government of India introduced National Education Policy(NEP-2020).That enhanced certain parameters like 5+3+3+4 system, covering Fundamental stage with FLN(Functional Literacy & Numeracy),Preparatory stage with Interactive Classroom Learning,Middle Stage with Pedagogy & Vocational Training & Secondary Stage to leave choice of subjects for students.
Despite such holistic curriculums discontentment on education stream fabricated still gruelling questions.
Our policy rather adverse contentment to ensure paradigm on education.Overall monitoring part seems flattered where in Odisha all benches passing in classes can not variance between meritorious & weak students.
Secondly environment building too a lacuna to ensure attractive classrooms & surrounding environment to appeal parents to join in school.10 am to 4pm though mandatory presence of teachers in schools, but on coincidence neither parents nor school management committee promote towards quality education.
Other days I discussed with District Education Officer of Gajapati who made a master plan in Prayas as better input to bring better advantage.Since last 2 years Gajapati district topped in Odisha in HSC Results. So better ground strategy can be implemented to enhance better results. Several other key tools like AI with teachings capacity building recently imparted to Headmasters/Headmistresses of High Schools in Gajapati.Despite such inputs we are still lacking to promote strength particularly in grassroots education system.
Beyond all only ethics inside teachers to play as classroom than need to assess family bond. Policy & curriculum must be balanced to bring better standard education. Once doubt clearance by students maintained classroom can be a visual documents leveraging a feather to promote weaker standard section towards better learning.
Last but not least Administration, Teachers & parents can be made as triangle to last better both quality & quantity mobility on education system.
