DIABETES AWARENESS RALLY IN BERHAMPUR CITY ON OCCASION OF WORLD DIABETES DAY

Berhampur,14/11/19:On the occasion of World Diabetes Day and National Pharmacy Week, celebrated globally on 14th Nov, Diabetes & Endocare Clinic, Berhampur lead by Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, Consultant Endocrinologist & Diabetes Superspecialist in association with Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Berhampur has organized a Diabetes awareness rally at Berhampur. Around 200 participants registered for the event, where Sri Satyabrata Bhoi, IPS, DIG, Southern Range was the chief guest with Dr B K Panigrahy, CDMO, Ganjam and Dr Ramesh Ch Chyaupatnaik, Ex MLA, Berhampur as the guests of honour. Sri Satyabrata Bhoi highlighted the importance of regular exercise and proper lifestyle in maintaining healthy life both in diabetics and non diabetics. Dr B K Panigrahy asked everyone in the family and society as a whole to wake up to the increasing prevalence of these lifestyle disorders and stressed upon diet control and a regulated life style. Dr Sunil Kota emphasized regular testing and specialist consultation to avoid any untoward situation arising out of Diabetes. Dr J Surya Rao, Director; Smt J Jayalakshmi, Chairperson and Dr B V V Ravi Kumar, Principal, Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences stressed upon the theme of this year’s National Pharmacy week “Know you medicines; Ask your pharmacist” and called upon budding pharmacists and the people at large to always be vigilant on self medication and unnecessary therapy.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Kota underscored the theme of the event ie “Diabetes & Family”. Family support and cooperation is absolutely necessary to tide over diabetes & its complications. It can be in from of moral support, encouragement, active participation in healthy lifestyle and regular exercise programs. Especially in elderly, it is additionally important in form of help them tackling their comorbidities, assisting them with regular medicine intake and specialist consultation, Apart from that, a person having diabetes should be a source of information regarding diabetes to all the members of family like its symptoms, complications, lifestyle changes and screening procedures. Dr Kota highlighted that 1 informed person should be a source of enlightenment to many.

An awareness video on Diabetes by Dr Sunil Kota was presented to the guests and was distributed amongst participants by social media. Sri Satybrata Bhoi and Dr Chyaupatnaik later on thanked Dr Sunil for his tremendous efforts to build up awareness among the people from various places of South Odisha. Dr Kota further thanked the guests and others for their active participation. Subsequently guests flagged off the walk, where people participated with a uniform dress code conveying the theme and carried placards carrying the message of healthy living in diabetes. The rally started from Auto stand, Gate Bazaar and proceeded through Gate Bazaar, Aska Road and Taluka to end at First Gate. .Around 3000 diabetes educational pamphlets were distributed amongst the passing by people during the rally. Amongst others Dr Niranjan Patro, Dr Bimalendu Choudhury, Dr Jyoti Pattanaik, faculty and students of Roland institute of Pharmaceutical sciences, Members of Sabuja Bahini, Anchalika Bikash Parishada & Lions club and volunteers from Diabetes & Endocare Clinic too graced the occasion.
