New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that the defence budget was increased by six per cent to Rs 3.37 lakh crore against last year’s Rs 3.19 lakh crore.

The defence pension budget has been hiked up to Rs 1.33 lakh crore from Rs 1.17 lakh crore allocated last year.

The finance minister said for the purpose of modernisation and purchasing new weapon systems, defence forces have been provided Rs 1,10,734 crore, which is Rs 10, 340 crore more than what was allocated in last year’s budget.

The hike in the defence pension budget is more than that given in revenue and capital funds for defence.
