Brahmapur Police Bust Dacoity Gang; Five Arrested, Weapons and Cash Seized

Brahmapur, August 23, 2026: In a swift operation, Berhampur Sadar Police, with assistance from Digapahandi Police, busted a highway dacoity gang and arrested five accused within hours of an alleged robbery on Baulajholi Canal Road. Police recovered weapons, mobile phones, cash and a motorcycle from the arrested persons.
Driver Assaulted, Rs.24,000 Looted
According to police, on August 22, 2026, at around 12:40 PM, Bhairab Kumar Sahu (45), a resident of Kukudakhandi, lodged a complaint stating that he was transporting two bullocks in vehicle No. OD 07 C 5709 from Kanchuru to Dengapadar on a rental basis.
While travelling along Baulajholi Canal Road, he was intercepted by six unidentified persons. When he refused to meet their demand for money, the accused allegedly assaulted him, forcibly took ₹1,500 in cash, snatched his mobile phone and transferred ₹22,500 through PhonePe. The total loss was Rs.24,000.
Berhampur Sadar Police registered PS Case No. 544/2026 under Section 310(6) of the BNS and launched an investigation.
Five Accused Arrested
Acting swiftly, police teams tracked down and arrested five suspected members of the gang:
Bhikari Das @ Champi (21), son of Kalu Das, Banthapalli, Digapahandi, Ganjam.
Mukesh Bishoyi (26), son of Gajendra Bishoyi, Baulajholi, B. Sadar, Ganjam.
Sangram Bishoyi (21), son of Babula Bishoyi, Baulajholi, B. Sadar, Ganjam.
Kanha Bishoyi (24), son of Kalia Bishoyi, Baulajholi, B. Sadar, Ganjam.
Papu Bishoyi (21), son of Gajendra Bishoyi, Baulajholi, B. Sadar, Ganjam.
Weapons, Cash and Mobile Phones Seized
Police recovered the following items from the accused:
The complainant’s mobile phone and a knife from Bhikari Das @ Champi.
A Honda Shine motorcycle bearing registration OR 07 AA 7943, a mobile phone and Rs.500 from Mukesh Bishoyi.
An iron punch, a mobile phone and Rs.22,000 cash from Papu Bishoyi.
Mobile phones from Sangram Bishoyi and Kanha Bishoyi.
During interrogation, the arrested accused allegedly admitted their involvement in the crime and identified their sixth associate as Nandan Behera (21) of Banthapalli. He is currently absconding, and police teams are making efforts to apprehend him.
All five arrested accused were taken into custody on August 22 and subsequently forwarded to the Hon’ble Court for further legal proceedings.
