The owner and a staff member of a unisex beauty parlour in Bhubaneswar were arrested following allegations of sexually assaulting a young woman under the pretext of providing her with a job.
Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police arrested two men for allegedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman inside a beauty parlour at Jagamara under Khandagiri police station limits in Bhubaneswar.
The accused were identified as Rabindra Mohanty (50), the parlour owner from Kolathia under Bharatpur police station limits, and Santosh Kumar Barik (52), an employee from Ragadipada village in the Cuttack district.
Police sources said the victim, trained in beauty and cosmetology, was seeking employment when she visited the unisex parlour after being promised a lucrative job. Trusting the owner’s assurances, she went to the premises a few days ago, where she was allegedly assaulted by Mohanty and Barik.
Following her complaint at Khandagiri police station on Sunday night, police registered a case under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A scientific team collected evidence, examined CCTV footage, and seized objectionable materials. The parlour has since been sealed.
On Tuesday, the duo was arrested and produced before court, which rejected their bail pleas and sent them to judicial custody
