Badabazar Police Arrest Man for Alleged Attempt to Murder, Assault and Outraging Modesty of Women

Brahmapur, October 21, 2026: Badabazar Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with an alleged assault on two women, outraging their modesty and attempting to murder them following a neighbourhood altercation in Harijan Sahi, Municipality Colony, Brahmapur.
According to police, a complaint was received at Badabazar Police Station at around 10:30 PM on October 20 regarding an incident that allegedly took place near the complainant’s house at approximately 5:30 PM the same day.
As per the complaint, an altercation broke out between the complainant’s family and their neighbour, identified as Chandan Kandi.
During the confrontation, the accused allegedly assaulted two women members of the family, used obscene language and gestures, and attempted to disrobe them.
He too allegedly attempted to strangulate them with the intention of causing death.
The accused reportedly sustained a head injury during the clash. All the injured persons were shifted to City Hospital, Brahmapur, for medical examination and treatment.
Following the complaint, Badabazar Police registered Case No. 800/2026 under Sections 109(1), 296, 351(2), 115(2), 74, 76, 79 and 332(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said that the investigating team visited the spot and recorded witness statements under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). After preliminary investigation, police said prima facie evidence had been established against the accused.
Arrest and Further Investigation.
Chandan Kandi (24), son of late Bansi Kandi, of Municipality Colony, Harijan Sahi, Brahmapur, was arrested at around 11:30 PM on October 20 after completion of the required legal formalities.
He was subsequently forwarded to the court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Brahmapur, with a prayer for judicial remand.
Sub-Inspector Krutibas Nayak of Badabazar Police Station is investigating the case. Further investigation is underway.
