BRAHMAPUR, Oct 22: The Bada Bazar Police have arrested a father-son duo involved in a major gold jewellery cheating case amounting to Rs.22.23 lakh.

The arrested individuals have been identified as P. Milon Patra (62) and his son P. Bishal Kumar Patro (32), proprietors of M/s Milon Ornaments situated at Panigrahi Pentho, Bada Bazar Main Road, Brahmapur.

According to police sources, the case originated from a complaint lodged on May 15, 2026, by Andhavarapu Gouri Shankar.

The complainant alleged that on November 1, 2025, he had supplied 22-carat gold ornaments worth  Rs.22,23,750 to M/s Milon Ornaments under a valid tax invoice. To clear the dues, the accused issued an Axis Bank cheque, which subsequently bounced.

When the complainant approached the duo for payment, they repeatedly delayed the matter on false pretexts before absconding from the area. Upon being contacted over the phone, the accused allegedly hurled obscene abuses, issued death threats, and flatly refused to clear the outstanding amount.

Based on the complaint, Bada Bazar Police registered Case No. 313/2026 under Sections 318(2), 316(2), 296, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following a continuous effort, a police team tracked down P. Bishal Kumar Patro to Bengaluru, where he was apprehended on October 19 with the assistance of local police. He was brought back to Brahmapur on a transit remand granted by the 30th ACJM Court, Bengaluru. His father and co-accused, P. Milon Patra, was subsequently nabbed in Brahmapur on October 21 at around 2:30 PM.

During the operation, police seized ₹57,900 in cash, a Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, three ATM cards, two credit cards, a GST registration certificate, identity documents, and financial transaction records related to the business.

Investigation revealed that both accused are habitual offenders involved in multiple similar cases of cheating and criminal intimidation registered at Bada Bazar PS under Case Nos. 340/2026, 341/2026, 802/2026, and 803/2026.

Both accused have been produced before the Court of the SDJM Court.
