FORMER SPEAKER SARAT KAR PASSES AWAY (!).

JAJPUR,(Bari): Former Speaker of Odisha Assembly and eminent politician Sarat Kumar Kar passed away at a private hospital here on Monday. He was 81. This was informed by his son Sobhan Kar.

Inspired by the ideology of legendary Biju Patnaik, Kar entered politics and was elected MLA for three times and once as a Member of Parliament.

Sarat Kar, who represented the Assembly three times from the Mahanga constituency, was elected as a Janata Party (Lok Dal) MP in 1977 from Cuttack after defeating Congress stalwart and the then sitting Union Minister JB Patnaik.

He was, 2000 to 2004 .He was elected from2000–2004, 1990–1995 & 1971–74 for three times to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Mahanga ,Kendrapara district. He was the speaker of the Twelfth Assembly from March 10, 2000, to May 21, 2004.

He was the Minister of Education and Culture in 1971 in the Biswanath Das Government. Born in Cuttack district in the year 1939 and  had entered into politics after completion of his higher studies from Allahabad University in 1964 .Apart from  Politics late Karwas a great devotee of Lord Shree  Jagannath and  also a sweet voice commentator In Ratha Yatra telecast on Doordarshan,All India Radio and other private channels for the last 40 yrs. He has written four Poetry books.

Odisha,Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief at the passing away of veteran leader and former Odisha Speaker Sarat Kar.
