Rayagada, October 31: Emphasizing the dual priorities of systematic small savings and proactive cybersecurity, a district-level awareness convention was convened at the MSME Conference Hall in Ramakrishna Nagar to commemorate World Thrift Day. The meeting was inaugurated by Chief Guest Rabindra Nath Kahnar, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Rayagada. In-Charge District Small Savings Officer Sasmita Pattnaik initiated proceedings by welcoming administrative heads, key stakeholders, and delegates.

Delivering the keynote address, Chief Guest ADM Rabindra Nath Kahnar underscored the vital habit of earmarking a designated portion of routine household income into secure savings. He stressed that structured thrift forms an indispensable buffer against unforeseen emergencies and long-term socio-economic needs, while cautioning citizens to stay vigilant against modern cyber threats.

Echoing these thoughts, Additional SP Satya Kumar Nanda observed that modest, continuous deposits steadily compound into a robust financial corpus capable of cushioning future domestic liabilities.

Superintendent of Post Offices Duryodhana Barik traced the historical genesis and contemporary relevance of World Thrift Day. He walked the audience through safe, sovereign-backed small savings instruments accessible through post offices and nationalized banking channels, highlighting their stability and assured returns. Further expanding on long-term safety nets, Lead District Manager Debendra Kumar Bauri outlined the significance of structured financial planning and explained the core benefits of government social security initiatives such as the Atal Pension Yojana.

Alert Against Digital and Economic Fraud

Addressing the escalating menace of cyber fraud, Cyber Crime Inspector Abinash Reddy briefed participants on manipulative tactics employed by fraudsters—notably deceptive calls using coercion, fictitious legal threats, or unverified schemes promising unrealistic high returns. He issued a strong advisory urging citizens never to disclose confidential credentials, including One-Time Passwords (OTPs), Aadhaar/KYC information, or ATM card credentials, to unverified contacts or unauthentic digital links.

The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Srikanta Kumar Panigrahi, Sub-Divisional Social Security Officer (Rayagada), who also conducted the stage proceedings. The awareness drive witnessed an active turnout of 86 participants, including departmental officers, MSME enterprise staff, members of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and local residents.
