Bhubaneswar, October 30th, 2026: President Droupadi Murmu’s proposed three-day visit to her home district of Mayurbhanj has been postponed for the second time in view of the continuing post-cyclone situation, heavy rainfall and flooding in several parts of Odisha.
Amid the challenging situation, President Murmu spoke over the telephone with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to take stock of the cyclone’s impact and the ongoing relief and restoration operations.
She enquired about the ground situation, the condition of displaced people and the safety and well-being of residents in the affected areas.
During the conversation, Chief Minister Majhi apprised the President of the extent of damage across the affected districts and briefed her on the rescue, relief and restoration measures being undertaken by the state government on a war footing.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for her concern and support, stating that her encouragement had strengthened the government’s resolve to ensure the safety of people and restore normalcy at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the local administration confirmed that the President’s proposed Rairangpur tour had been cancelled in view of the prevailing weather conditions. Rairangpur Additional District Magistrate Ajit Kumar said the decision was taken keeping public safety and security arrangements in mind amid persistent heavy rainfall.
The President was initially scheduled to visit Rairangpur on October 28 for a two-day programme. However, the visit was cancelled following the approach of Cyclone Arnab. It was subsequently rescheduled for November 3 to 5 as a three-day tour.
Under the revised itinerary, President Murmu was scheduled to arrive at Kalaikunda in West Bengal on November 3 by a special Indian Air Force aircraft and proceed by road to Rairangpur under security arrangements.
Her proposed engagements included visits to Maa Kichakeswari Temple at Bahalda, Laxmi Mandap at Mahuldiha, her residence in Rairangpur, Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, Kacheri Ground and the local Holiday Home. The November 5 programme was scheduled to include the Rairangpur Sports Complex, Bikash Nagar, the Multi-Skill Development Centre at Gorumahisani Iron College and the Town Hall.
Mayurbhanj MP Naba Charan Majhi informed the media that fresh dates for the President’s visit to her home district would be announced after the weather conditions improve and normalcy returns to the affected areas.
