Nimakhandi Police Bust Job Fraud; Man Arrested for Cheating Rs 6.2 Lakh with Fake OPSC Job Offer

Brahmapur, 22nd,Oct,2026:The Nimakhandi Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly duping a female aspirant of Rs 6.2 lakh by promising her an officer-level appointment in the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC).
The arrested accused has been identified as Tukuna Swain alias Susanta Kumar Swain, a resident of Nilanchala Nagar (originally from Rambha, Ganjam).
The Scam Unfolds:-According to the police report, the victim, Subhashree Behera (35) of Shaktinagar, Lochapada, lodged a formal complaint at Nimakhandi Police Station on July 9, 2026.
She alleged that Swain impersonated a well-connected individual claiming to have high-level influence within the OPSC.
Relying on his assurances, the victim and her family paid a total of Rs 6,20,000 through UPI transfers and bank deposits between October 2025 and March 2026. To keep the victim in the dark and earn her trust, the accused sent fake OPSC selection lists and forged documents via WhatsApp.
However, after receiving the money, Swain continually delayed the appointment, offered false assurances of a refund, avoided meeting the complainant in Bhubaneswar, and eventually went into hiding.
Based on the complaint, Nimakhandi Police registered Case No. 222/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police officials visited the spot, examined key witnesses, and recorded statements under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). I
nvestigators verified the WhatsApp conversations, UPI transactions, and bank statements, establishing a prima facie case of cheating, forgery, and financial fraud.
Police arrested Swain on October 22, 2026, seizing his mobile phone along with extracted evidence of the fraudulent chats and digital financial transactions.
He has been forwarded to the magistrate’s court, and further investigation is underway to check if more victims were duped in a similar manner.
