Four Arrested for Assault, Illegal Confinement and Obstructing Police Duty at Kukudakhandi

Brahmapur, October 10, 2026: Four persons have been arrested in connection with an incident involving alleged assault, illegal confinement, obstruction of police personnel and damage to a police vehicle at Kukudakhandi Bauri Sahi in Ganjam district.
According to police, the incident took place on September 14, 2026, when a group of around 8–10 persons allegedly arrived at Bauri Sahi on motorcycles, armed with deadly weapons and explosives. The group reportedly hurled two bombs, triggering panic in the locality.
Local residents allegedly apprehended two persons along with a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number OD 07 AB 8486 and a scooty bearing registration number OD 07 BG 1468. During the incident, one of the apprehended persons was allegedly assaulted, sustaining bleeding injuries, while another was confined inside a community hall.
Police Team Obstructed; Confined Person Rescued
On receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot to rescue the confined person and take necessary action. However, according to the police account, a local mob allegedly obstructed the police team from discharging its lawful duties, abused and threatened the personnel, and pelted stones at a police vehicle, damaging government property.

The person confined inside the community hall was allegedly kept under lock and key until around 2 AM. Subsequently, senior police officials, supported by additional force and the Executive Magistrate-cum-Tahasildar of Kukudakhandi, rescued the person and shifted him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur for treatment.
Four Arrested and Forwarded to CourtIn connection with the incident, Inspector Suchitra Parida, IIC of Brahmapur Sadar Police Station, registered B. Sadar PS Case No. 584, dated September 15, 2026, under Sections 189(2), 189(5), 190, 191(2), 195(2), 132, 127(2), 324(3), 324(6), 115(2) and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.

Four Bombs Hurled at Kukudakhandi Attack Sparks Tension; Villagers Detain Two Suspects, Sadar, IIC,Ms. Suchitra Parida Rush to Defuse Crisis
Tension grips Harijan Sahi after motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly hurl crude bombs; Sadar Police team rush to spot control situation.
According to preliminary information available to Odishabarta, the group allegedly arrived in the locality on around five motorcycles and hurled four bombs, creating panic among residents. The exact motive behind the attack and the identity of those involved are yet to be officially established.
The incident reportedly occurred only hours after a local youth was allegedly attacked with a sword on the Kukudakhandi main road. The youth sustained injuries in the attack. Police are expected to ascertain whether the two incidents are connected.
Villagers Chase Suspects;
Following the bombing, the suspected attackers allegedly attempted to escape from the area on their motorcycles. Angry villagers reportedly chased them and pelted stones at the fleeing group.
During the commotion, two suspected persons allegedly fell from their motorcycles and were subsequently detained by local residents. The two were reportedly restrained by villagers until police reached the spot.
The situation became tense when police personnel attempted to rescue the detained persons from the crowd.Sadar Police moved to the spot with additional personnel to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation.According to local information,acting promptly in action IIC,Sadar Police Station Ms. Suchitra Parida rushed to the affected area along with her team and engaged with the aggrieved villagers.
Her immediate presence and efforts to convince the residents reportedly helped police manage the tense situation and prevent the confrontation from escalating further.
A police vehicle was reportedly damaged during the commotion?
A substantial police force was subsequently deployed in and around the locality as a precautionary measure. Police personnel remained present to maintain law and order and to prevent any further confrontation between the local residents and the suspected attackers.
Police are also expected to examine the motorcycles, identify the persons involved and ascertain the nature of the explosive materials allegedly used in the attack.
The detention of the two suspects by villagers does not by itself establish their involvement in the bombing.
Their role will have to be determined through police investigation and due legal process.

Police have arrested the prime accused, identified as Kalia Sahu (24), alias “Bombarding Kalia,” and apprehended two juveniles in connection with the violent incident reported at Bauri Sahi in Kukudakhandi on September 14th night..
The action follows B. Sadar Police Station Case No. 585/2026, registered in connection with the alleged attack and intimidation in the locality.

According to police, a group of persons allegedly arrived on motorcycles and entered Bauri Sahi carrying swords and bombs. The group allegedly abused local residents, hurled live jute bombs and issued death threats, creating panic in the area.
Following a complaint lodged on September 15, police intensified security measures and have been conducting continuous patrolling in and around the village to prevent any further escalation of tension.
Police said Kalia Sahu, 24, is a habitual offender and has several previous criminal cases registered against him, including cases under the Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act and NDPS Act. He was arrested on September 16 and subsequently forwarded to the court.
Two other accused, aged approximately 16 and 17 years, were apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in accordance with law.
Meanwhile, another co-accused, who was reportedly injured after being assaulted by villagers during the incident, is undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur.
Police said investigation into the case is continuing and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the remaining accused persons. Further action will follow based on the evidence collected during the investigation.

Three More Arrested, Two Juveniles Apprehended in Kukudakhandi Gang Violence Case; Two Live Bombs Recovered
In a further development in the Kukudakhandi gang violence case, Sadar Police have arrested three more persons and apprehended two juveniles in conflict with law in connection with the alleged rioting, assault and bomb-hurling incident at Bauri Sahi on September 14.

The latest arrests take the investigation forward following the arrest of the primary accused on September 16. Police have also recovered two live jute bombs during the investigation.
Based on the complaint, Brahmapur Sadar Police Station registered Case No. 585/2026 dated September 15 under Sections 126(2), 296, 109, 351(2), 190 and 111(2)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 27 of the Arms Act and Sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Substances Act.
As part of the continuing investigation, police on September 18 arrested:
Gangadhar Mohanty @ Ganga (22), of Kaluasahi, Kukudakhandi.
Bikash Patra (25), of Kaluasahi, Kukudakhandi.
Subham Kumar Sahu (19), of Balakrushnapur.
Two juveniles, aged 16 and 17 years, were also apprehended in connection with the case.
All three arrested accused were forwarded to the competent court on September 18, while the two juveniles were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, Brahmapur.
During the investigation, police searched the premises of accused Gangadhar Mohanty following information allegedly disclosed by him. The search resulted in the seizure of two live jute bombs.
