Lady Accused Arrested by Brahmapur Sadar Police

Brahmapur, October 9, 2026: Brahmapur Sadar Police arrested an absconding accused, identified as Basanti Naik (37), in connection with an assault case registered on September 9, 2026, at Brahmapur Sadar Police Station in Ganjam district.

She was apprehended on October 8 and forwarded to the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Rural, Brahmapur, after completion of the required legal formalities.

According to the police, on September 9 at around 7:30 PM, Nibedita Nayak (48), a resident of Satapandia village under Brahmapur Sadar Police Station limits, lodged a complaint alleging that a dispute arose over previous enmity.

The complainant alleged that Siba Nayak of the same village abused her in filthy language on the street. Subsequently, Siba Nayak, his father Prakash Nayak and his mother Basanti Naik allegedly quarrelled with her husband and assaulted him with an iron wristband-like weapon locally known as a Bola.

The victim reportedly sustained bleeding injuries to his face, head and back. The accused persons also allegedly threatened to kill him.

Acting in a tip-off,Brahmapur Sadar Police registered a case vide Brahmapur Sadar PS Case No. 573 dated September 9, 2026, under Sections 126(2), 296, 115(2), 117(2), 109, 351(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and took up the investigation.

During  investigation,   police seized an iron wristband (Bola), alleged to have been used in the assault.

The two co-accused, Siba Nayak (19) and Prakash Nayak (45), had already been arrested and forwarded to court on September 11, 2026.
