Badabazar Police Arrest Habitual Offender in Night House Theft

Brahmapur, Oct. 2 (Odishabarta): Badabazar Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a night-time house theft case and recovered the stolen Vivo mobile handset from his possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sibananda Panigrahi (21), son of Krushna Chandra Panigrahi of Dharma Nagar under Badabazar police limits in Ganjam district. He was arrested at around 9:15 AM on October 1, 2026, and subsequently forwarded to the court of the SDJM, Brahmapur.

Case Details

According to police, a resident of Shanti Nagar 5th Lane, Brahmapur, lodged a complaint at Badabazar Police Station alleging that her Vivo mobile handset had been stolen from her house during the night of January 23, 2026.

Badabazar Police registered Case No. 67/2026 under Sections 331/305(a) of the BNS and took up investigation.

The investigation was conducted by ASI Sunil Kumar Parida under the supervision of the IIC, Badabazar Police Station.

During the investigation, police visited the spot, examined witnesses and analyzed available CCTV footage. Police identified two persons allegedly involved in the theft.

One of the alleged co-accused, a 17-year-old child, had earlier been apprehended on September 11, 2026, and was dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Stolen Mobile Recovered

Police said the stolen Vivo handset was recovered from the exclusive possession of Sibananda Panigrahi under a proper seizure list.

The recovered mobile phone was subsequently handed over to the complainant under zimanama.

Following the alleged confession and recovery, police arrested Sibananda Panigrahi after observing the prescribed legal formalities and relevant Supreme Court guidelines.

After medical examination, he was forwarded to the SDJM Court, Brahmapur, on October 1, 2026, with a prayer for 15 days’ judicial custody.
