Gopalpur  Police Bust Scooter Theft; Two Held, Stolen Activa Recovered

Gopalpur-on-Sea, Oct. 1 (Odishabarta): Gopalpur Police have cracked a scooter theft case with the arrest of two persons and recovery of the stolen vehicle from the possession of one of the accused.

The case relates to the theft of a Honda Activa scooter from near Gopalpur Sea Beach on September 13, 2026. The vehicle had reportedly been parked in front of a wine shop near the beach while the owner, identified as Shovan Mallick 34) of Gajapati Nagar, Brahmapur, had gone for a walk with his friend.

Following a complaint, Gopalpur Police registered Gopalpur PS Case No. 535 dated September 14, 2026, initially under Section 303(2) of the BNS. During investigation, the case was converted to Sections 303(2)/317(2)/3(5) BNS.

Police identified the accused as Kangress Biswal (32), son of Santosh Biswal of Badangula village under Kabisuryanagar Police Station, Ganjam district, and Ranjit Nayak (40), son of late Juakin Nayak of Sanakhani village under Mohana Police Station, Gajapati district.

According to police, Biswal allegedly stole the scooter from the parking spot and subsequently sold it to Nayak. Acting on information received from a reliable source, the investigating team apprehended Biswal. Based on information allegedly provided by him, police proceeded to Nayak’s residence in the presence of witnesses and recovered the stolen vehicle.

The seized vehicle is a black Honda Activa scooter bearing registration number OD 07AR 1108, with Engine No. JK15EG5121103 and Chassis No. ME4JK156EPG120906.

Police said prima facie evidence was found against Biswal under Section 303(2) BNS and against Nayak under Section 317(2) BNS. Both accused were arrested on September 30, 2026, at around 9:40 AM, after completion of the prescribed arrest formalities.

The grounds of arrest were communicated to the accused in writing in Odia, and both were forwarded to the competent court without delay.
