Truck Rams Funeral Procession on NH-326; Five Seriously Injured

Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Chandra Jena Rushes Three Injured Persons to Hospital
DIGHAPAHANDI, Sept. 15: Five persons, including four women, were seriously injured after a truck allegedly lost control and rammed into a funeral procession near Rajanapalli on National Highway-326 connecting Digapahandi and Rayagada on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the truck was travelling from Rayagada towards Berhampur when its driver allegedly lost control and crashed into people accompanying the funeral procession. The impact reportedly dragged some of the victims for a short distance, leaving five persons seriously injured.
At the time of the incident, Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Chandra Jena was travelling through the Taptapani route. On receiving information about the accident, he reached the spot and joined the rescue efforts.
The MLA took three of the seriously injured persons to Digapahandi Hospital in his own vehicle for immediate treatment. Fire Service personnel later reached the spot and rescued the remaining two injured persons.
After receiving preliminary treatment at Digapahandi Hospital, all five injured persons were referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, for further treatment.
Meanwhile, police seized the truck involved in the accident and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
The accident has once again highlighted road-safety concerns along NH-326, particularly on stretches where heavy vehicles pass through areas frequently used by pedestrians and local residents.
