DGP Reviews Law and Order, Crime Control and Police Preparedness in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate

Bhubaneswar,11/09/26: A high-level review meeting on law and order, crime control and police administration in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police area was held this morning at the Commissionerate Police conference hall under the chairmanship of Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Binaytosh Mishra.

During the meeting, the DGP conducted a detailed review of the recent law and order situation in the Commissionerate area, various issues relating to the forthcoming Assembly session, crime control, offences against women and children, enforcement of the NDPS Act, the “Nasha Mukt Odisha Abhiyan”, traffic management, implementation of the new criminal laws, police infrastructure and several other important issues.

With the Assembly session scheduled to commence shortly, the DGP stressed the need for close monitoring of possible programmes such as protests, demonstrations and gheraos by various organisations. He directed the police authorities to make advance preparations to deal with any such situation effectively.

As the next three months coincide with the festive season, DGP Mishra advised police officers to remain particularly vigilant against criminal activities and known offenders. He emphasised the need to prepare special security plans well in advance to ensure that all festivals are conducted peacefully, orderly and in a safe environment.

He directed the authorities to ensure adequate deployment of police personnel at sensitive locations, effective crowd management and traffic regulation, and regular meetings of peace committees. He also stressed the importance of maintaining continuous coordination with local elected representatives, various organisations and prominent members of different communities.

Special emphasis was laid on maintaining constant vigil in sensitive areas of Cuttack during the festive season, taking preventive measures in advance and remaining prepared for additional force deployment whenever required.

Focus on Organised Crime and Drug Trafficking

The meeting also discussed measures to strengthen crime control.

The DGP emphasised stringent legal action against habitual and organised criminals, strict enforcement of the NDPS Act, and regular raids and inspections against illegal activities, including illicit liquor and other unlawful practices.He directed officers to further strengthen the “Nasha Mukt Odisha Abhiyan” and take stringent action against drug trafficking networks and those involved in the illegal supply of narcotic substances.

Special Focus on Cybercrime and Mule Accounts

The DGP also directed officers to keep a close watch on cybercrime and offences committed through mule bank accounts.

Emphasis was placed on identifying suspicious bank accounts allegedly being used for criminal activities, registering appropriate cases with cyber and economic offences police stations wherever required, and undertaking coordinated investigations against wider criminal networks.

Technology-Based Investigation

The meeting also reviewed the effective implementation of the new criminal laws, forensic science and scientific investigation methods, fingerprint collection, and greater use of e-Summons and e-Sign.

DGP Mishra further stressed the importance of using body-worn cameras and dashboard cameras to make police operations more transparent, accountable and effective.

Review of Police Infrastructure

The police infrastructure of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack was also reviewed, with discussions held on various ongoing and proposed projects.

The functioning of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and vehicle-related arrangements was also examined, with emphasis on bringing necessary improvements to strengthen police response and operational efficiency.

Better Police-Public Coordination

The DGP directed senior officers to strengthen coordination between the police and the public, conduct regular visits to police stations, listen to citizens’ grievances and improve the quality of criminal investigation and police service delivery.

He stressed that greater public engagement and responsive policing would be essential for improving public confidence in the police administration.
