Temple Burglary Solved Within 24 Hours; Two Arrested, Stolen Brass Idols and Puja Articles Recovered

Berhampur, September 2, 2026: Brahmapur Town Police have cracked a temple burglary case within a day of the incident by arresting two persons and recovering stolen brass idols and other puja articles from Shri Shri Maa Mahalaxmi Temple at Ramakrishna Nagar 5th Lane.
The case was registered on September 1, 2026, following a complaint by Trinath Mahapatra, who reported that unidentified miscreants had broken open the temple locks and decamped with brass idols, bells, utensils, hundi cash and other temple articles.
Acting swiftly, police examined the crime scene with the assistance of a scientific team, analysed CCTV footage and developed source information to identify the suspects.
During the investigation, police identified the accused as Rizwan Khan (28), son of Anis Khan of Somanath Nagar 5th Lane, and SK. Sadam Hussain alias Azagar Alli (24), son of SK. Hussain, both under Brahmapur Town Police Station limits.
During interrogation, Rizwan Khan reportedly confessed to committing the burglary along with SK. Sadam Hussain. Based on his disclosure, police recovered five jute bags containing the stolen articles from an area near Dhoba Nala at Subham Bihar in Berhampur.
The recovered items included brass idols, temple bells, lamps, plates, bowls, glasses, kalasi, cooking utensils and other puja articles. Police also seized a drilling machine, a cutter machine and ₹2,340 in cash from the possession of the accused.
Both accused were arrested on September 1 and forwarded to the Court of the SDJM, Brahmapur, on September 2.
The case has been registered as Brahmapur Town PS Case No. 404 dated 01.09.2026 under Sections 331(4)/305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Subsequently, Sections 111(2)(b)/331(4)/305/3(5) BNS were added during the course of investigation.
Further investigation is underway.
