IPS Officers Contribute  Rs.6.55 Lakh to Family of Deceased Home Guard in Bhubaneswar

Odishabarta appreciates the humanitarian gesture of the Odisha IPS fraternity and the police administration in standing by the bereaved family during a difficult period.

Bhubaneswar, August 17, 2026: In a commendable gesture of solidarity and compassion, IPS officers of Odisha have contributed Rs.6.55 lakh to support the family of late Home Guard Pradeep Kumar Martha, who passed away while undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, on April 24, 2026.

Sri Sanjeeb Panda, IPS, DG, Anti-Naxal Operations, handed over a cheque of  Rs.6.55 lakh to Smt. Urmila Martha, wife of the deceased Home Guard, at a simple ceremony held at the Operations Headquarters. Deepak Kumar, IG, Operations, was also present on the occasion.

Late Pradeep Kumar Martha was last posted at the IPS and Senior Officers’ Mess, Bhubaneswar, where he was serving as a Home Guard.

The family had earlier received Rs.4 lakh as ex gratia assistance from the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on June 17, 2026. Subsequently, Sri L.C. Amaranthan, President of the Retired IPS Officers’ Association, presented a cheque of  Rs.1,12,500 to Smt. Martha on June 18.

In another significant step towards supporting the bereaved family, the Commandant Home Guards-cum-DCP, Bhubaneswar, appointed Smt. Urmila Martha as a Home Guard in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate on August 15, 2026.

The series of assistance extended to the family reflects the spirit of humanity, compassion and institutional solidarity towards the family of a deceased Home Guard who served the police establishment.
