Murder mystery busted by Rayagada police

Rayagada, July 31: Rayagada Police have successfully detected the sensational murder case registered as Chandili P.S. Case No. 198, U/S 103(1)/238 BNS, pertaining to recovery of an unidentified female dead body concealed inside a bag, with the arrest of the accused after rigorous investigation over a month.

On receipt of information from the Manager of Hyundai Showroom, Khaliguda, Rayagada, regarding a foul-smelling bag lying in the vacant land adjoining the showroom, Chandili Police registered the case and continued investigation under the guidance of CAW, Crime Branch and SWR Range DIG. In the process it recovered the decomposed dead body of an unidentified woman from inside the bag. Despite wide circulation of the deceased’s photograph through print and social media and sustained field enquiry, her identity could not be immediately ascertained, and after completion of all legal formalities the unclaimed body was accorded decent burial, with exhibits and biological samples preserved for future identification.

Undeterred, the investigating team reconstructed the movements of the person who had left the bag at the spot, through meticulous scrutiny of CCTV footage across multiple establishments across Rayagada Town and Chandili area and successive modes of transport on the night of occurrence. Cyber Cell, Rayagada traced the accused’s movement from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh to Rayagada on the date of disposal of the body.

On the strength of this evidence, the accused was identified as Bolisetti Suresh Kumar of Kancharapalem, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and was arrested on last Tuesday. On interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime and disclosed the identity of the deceased by stating that a young woman of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh with whom he had been in a love relationship. The fatal assault followed a dispute arising out of the deceased’s insistence on marriage. The accused further disclosed the manner in which the body was concealed and transported from Andhra Pradesh to Rayagada for disposal.

The accused will be produced before the Hon’ble Court and forwarded to judicial custody. Further investigation, including forensic examination and verification of the disclosure of the accused is in progress.

The detection of this case involving sustained investigation spanning two States reflects the professionalism, diligence and result-oriented approach of Rayagada Police in bringing offenders to justice.
