Bhubaneswar:delegation of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today met the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha, and submitted a set of important suggestions aimed at making the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls more transparent, inclusive and citizen-friendly.

The delegation comprised BJD Vice President Pratap Jena, former Minister Ashok Panda, and Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo, Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Susant Rout, Senior General Secretary Dr Lekhashree Samantsinghar, General Secretary Bijay Nayak, Media Cell Coordinator and Spokesperson Dr Lenin Mohanty, and senior leader Rabi Samal. The delegation discussed three key issues with the Chief Electoral Officer.

Firstly, the BJD requested that an SMS acknowledgement be sent to electors immediately after the digitisation of Enumeration Forms through the BLO App. Such an acknowledgement would enable electors to verify that their forms have been successfully received and digitised, thereby enhancing transparency and public confidence in the revision process.

Secondly, the delegation urged the Election Commission authorities to consider the inclusion of PAN Card, Driving Licence and Ration Card as additional indicative documents during the Claims and Objections stage of Electoral Roll Revision. This would facilitate greater participation and make it easier for eligible voters to establish their credentials and exercise their electoral rights.

Thirdly, the delegation proposed the creation of dedicated WhatsApp groups involving election officials and recognised political party representatives at appropriate levels to ensure seamless communication, prompt resolution of issues, and smoother coordination throughout the SIR process.

The BJD delegation emphasised that these measures would strengthen transparency, improve voter convenience and contribute to a more efficient and inclusive electoral roll revision exercise.
