“I don’t want explanation ,I want result”
BHUBANESWAR,( 10/06/2026):The aftermath of the Odisha Police’s alleged assault on a lawyer-cum-restaurateur and illegal detention of her fiancé, an Army captain, has seen a serving general writing to the chief justice of the Orissa High Court excoriating the police for their actions, while Army veterans and retired police personnel have lined up on either side to fire off allegations.
Both sides have their takes on what exactly transpired on the intervening night of 14-15 September at Bharatpur police station. The 32-year-old woman—the daughter of a retired brigadier—has said that she was beaten up and sexually assaulted at the police station, while the 29-year-old captain has said that all this happened while he was illegally locked up in a cell by the police.
Four of the five suspended police officers from the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar had their suspensions revoked and were reinstated by the Director General of Police (DGP). This decision came after a judicial commission investigated the 2024 incident regarding an altercation with an Indian Army officer and his fiancée.
The incident occurred in September 2024 when an Army Captain and his fiancée went to the Bharatpur police station seeking assistance regarding a road rage incident. Instead of registering an FIR, an altercation ensued, leading to the alleged custodial assault of the Army officer and the severe assault and sexual harassment of his fiancée. This custodial abuse prompted widespread outrage and interventions from both the Indian Army and the Odisha state government.
Why Some Staff Were Suspended and Reinstated(?).
Initial Action: Following sustained pressure from the Indian Army and senior state officials, five police personnel were suspended, including the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC).
The case was handed over to the state Crime Branch, and a Judicial Commission was appointed.
Revocation: Following the Judicial Commission’s probe, the suspension orders of four of the officers (an SI and three ASIs/constables) were revoked.
The state administration determined their continued suspension was no longer required or did not align with preliminary findings to justify prolonged removal from duty.
The Main Accused: The former Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of the Bharatpur police station, Dinakrushna Mishra, remained under suspension due to the severity of the allegations directly against him
