Seven Mafia arrested; Tahsildar Attempting to Murder During Anti-Illegal Mining Raid in Jajpur

Jajpur: Seven persons have been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder Vyasanagar Tahsildar Prashant Kumar Panda, who was run over by a tractor during an anti-illegal mining operation in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

The incident occurred near Minabazar Chowk under Korei police limits on Saturday, when Panda, along with his team, conducted a raid following a tip-off about illegal soil excavation from a pond. As officials tried to halt the activity and question workers operating heavy machinery, the situation escalated.

According to police, some miscreants attempted to flee the spot and one of them deliberately rammed a tractor into the Tahsildar in a bid to escape, leaving him seriously injured. Panda was initially taken to Korei Community Health Centre and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He is currently undergoing treatment and is stated to be in critical but stable condition.

During the operation, police seized five tractors and two JCB machines allegedly used in the illegal activity. The accused have been booked under various sections, including attempt to murder, at Korei police station.
