Puri,(25/03/2026): The long-awaited inventory and assessment of the Ratna Bhandar at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri began smoothly on Wednesday, with authorities completing the first phase without disruption and accounting for a major portion of the movable treasury.
Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Kumar Padhee said the exercise continued for over six hours, during which nearly 80% of the movable treasures were assessed. The process, known as Ganati Manati, included detailed counting of gold ornaments and items used in the daily rituals of Lord Jagannath.
Padhee said advanced documentation methods were deployed. “Each ornament and valuable item was weighed and measured. There were special teams for photography and videography. And for the first time, we have also done 3D mapping of the main ornaments,” he said.
The verification is being carried out with reference to the 1978 inventory, the last such exercise conducted at the temple. Officials maintained strict confidentiality, declining to reveal the quantity or specifics of the valuables as per the standard operating procedure.
Notably, ornaments currently adorning the deities were not included in the first day’s count, though ritual-use items were documented. Public darshan was restricted to Bahara Katha during the process.
Padhee added, “The entire process was completed in the presence of the Executive Magistrate… with transparency and without hindrance.”
