Angul,( 25/-2/26): In a vibrant push for human-wildlife coexistence, People for Animals (PFA), Angul, under the steadfast leadership of renowned wildlife conservationist Biplab Mahapatra, organized a series of Wildlife Awareness Camps across five villages in the Purnagarh Range of Angul Forest Division.

Supported by the Angul Forest Division, the camps ran from February 14th to 18th, drawing around 500 nos. of enthusiastic participants from Pathargarh, Manikjodi, Kankerei, Hinsaloi, and Saharagoda.

The initiative spotlighted critical themes: human-animal conflict mitigation, wildlife conservation and protection, wildlife offenses, and strategies for peaceful coexistence.

Villagers shared gripping accounts of challenges posed by human-elephant conflicts, including crop raids and safety threats, while lauding the proactive measures by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sri Nitish Kumar.

Participants praised the timely installation of solar fencing and smooth delivery of Anukampa compensations, which have eased tensions and restored trust.Biplab Mahapatra, Chairperson of PFA Angul, addressed the gatherings with a powerful message: “Our forests are not just habitats for elephants and tigers—they are the lifeblood of our communities. Human-animal conflicts arise from shared spaces, but through awareness, solar fencing, and compassionate compensation, we can forge a path of harmony.

Let us commit to protecting our wildlife, reporting offenses, and coexisting sustainably.

Together, with the Angul Forest Division’s support, we turn challenges into triumphs for Odisha’s rich biodiversity.

“The camps featured interactive sessions, expert talks, and demonstrations on conflict resolution, leaving participants empowered.

“These programs bridge the gap between people and wildlife,” said a Manikjodi resident. Mahapatra’s vision aligns with PFA’s mission, blending grassroots activism with governmental collaboration to safeguard Angul’s ecosystems.

This success underscores the power of community-driven conservation, setting a model for Odisha’s wildlife.
