KONARK: Konark came alive with colour, rhythm and celebration as the Konark Path Utsav unfolded this weekend, drawing locals, visitors and cultural enthusiasts into a vibrant street festival. The initiative added new charm to the ongoing Konark Festival, reinforcing the need to preserve and showcase Odisha’s traditional art forms. With dance troupes and musicians travelling from different parts of the state, the streets turned into an open cultural corridor, offering tourists a lively glimpse of Odisha’s artistic richness. The overwhelming turnout showed how eagerly both national and international visitors welcomed the event.

The Utsav was organised by the non-profit group Vikash, along with the Path Utsav Committee. Performers representing classical, folk, tribal and rural art traditions lined the main routes of the town. Their colourful costumes and energetic sequences created a festive mood throughout the evening, drawing continuous applause from spectators who followed the procession along the way.
Sharing the vision behind the programme, Shri Ashok Nanda, lead of Vikash, said the Path Utsav was designed to bring cultural expressions closer to the people and complement the wider Konark Festival. He said the positive response from artists and the public has encouraged the organisers to prepare for an expanded edition next year, with broader participation and support.
Internationally recognised rights activist and community media specialist N. A. Shah Ansari also welcomed the initiative. He said events like the Path Utsav are vital for safeguarding Odisha’s local cultural heritage. According to him, such festivals help bridge traditional art with contemporary audiences, ensuring cultural continuity and pride for future generations.
The procession began near the medical square, travelled through the Ring Road and tourist square, and returned to its starting point. The final showcase at Arka Mandap featured encore performances from selected teams. Outstanding groups were felicitated with awards for their remarkable presentations.
Among those present on the dais were Committee Chairman Raju Mohapatra, Zilla Parishad Vice President Swadhin Nayak, Konark NAC Chairperson Sanjukta Tripathy and Educationist Pratap Raut, who praised the enthusiasm of participants and volunteers.
With its festive spirit and strong cultural message, the Konark Path Utsav has emerged as a significant new attraction alongside the Konark Festival. Organisers believe it has the potential to become a major annual highlight, celebrating the community’s bond with its artistic heritage.
