A seven-state journey amplifying Indigenous voices and celebrating.the wisdom of India’s tribal communities

Bhubaneswar ,November 15, 2025, :On the eve of Birsa Munda Jayanti and Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, the Atmashakti Trust, in collaboration with the National Consortium to Combat Malnutrition (NCCM) and grassroots partners, launched the Indigenous Yatra – Listening Campaign across seven tribal-dominated states — Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

The campaign, spanning from November 15, 2025, to March 15, 2026, aims to listen deeply to Indigenous voices and document community wisdom that shapes India’s ecological and cultural resilience. Through storytelling, intergenerational dialogues, forest walks, art-based learning, and traditional games, the Yatra will reach over 300 tribal communities, co-creating knowledge frameworks that honor Indigenous ways of knowing and living.

“Listening to the Land, Learning from the People”

The Indigenous Yatra is a journey of recognition, restoration, and renewal, placing tribal communities at the heart of India’s sustainability story. Through Gaon Chaupal – Stories of Wisdom, Voice Reports, Uncultivated Food Exhibitions, Seed Exchanges, and Forest Walks on Climate and Biodiversity, the campaign celebrates and documents living traditions.

Creative expressions like community murals, Indigenous sports, and Reel for Change amplify local voices and intergenerational learning. Together, these efforts will form a National Repository of Voices, reflecting the depth, diversity, and ecological wisdom of India’s tribal life.

The launch on Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary honors the legendary tribal leader and reinforces the spirit of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, celebrating the strength, pride, and leadership of India’s Indigenous communities.
