CM Majhi Announces Rs 6 Lakh Aid for Odia Student Killed In Andhra Temple Stampede
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 6 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the next of kin of R Roopa, a 21-year-old BSc Nursing student from Gudipadar in Ganjam district.
She was among nine devotees killed in a stampede at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh.
The incident unfolded during Ekadashi celebrations, as a surging crowd triggered chaos and panic. Expressing profound grief, CM Majhi extended condolences to the bereaved family. One of Roopa’s relatives suffered critical injuries and remains under treatment at a local hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed sorrow, announcing Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased’s kin and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
