PM Modi to Launch Railway Projects Worth Rs. 1,700 Cr in Odisha on Sept 27
Bhubaneswar : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone and dedicate key railway projects worth over Rs. 1,700 crore in Odisha, marking a major boost to connectivity and freight movement in the state. The initiatives are aimed at easing passenger travel, improving cargo transport and opening new avenues for economic growth.
At the event, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a rail flyover between Sambalpur City and Sarla, a project of Rs. 273 crore. The flyover is expected to ease congestion at Sarla station and ensure smooth movement of trains on the busy Sambalpur-Jharsuguda section, a critical route for coal, minerals and industrial freight.
He will also dedicate two major doubling projects to the nation: the 34-km Koraput-Baiguda line (₹481 crore) and the 82-km Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur line (₹955 crore). While the Koraput-Baiguda doubling will support the transport of minerals and agricultural produce from the hilly region, the Manabar-Koraput-Gorapur stretch will facilitate faster movement of iron ore from Bailadilla mines to steel plants across India, boosting the steel sector. These projects will benefit both Odisha’s Koraput district and neighbouring Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh.
In addition, the Prime Minister will flag off the Amrit Bharat Express between Brahmapur and Udhna (Surat), linking Odisha directly with Gujarat. The train will serve passengers across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, offering faster and more comfortable travel while strengthening economic and cultural ties across eastern, central and western India.
Together, these projects are expected to reduce travel time, improve punctuality and safety, spur industrial growth and generate new employment opportunities for people in Odisha and beyond.
