PROMINENT FREEDOM FIGHTER PADMA SHRI BHABANI CHARAN PATNAIK PASSES

Bhubaneswar: Prominent freedom fighter and Padma Shri Bhabani Charan Patnaik died at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Patnaik was admitted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar on March 25 following cardiac problems.

A native of Nimapara in Puri district, Patnaik was elected to the Upper House for three terms in 1961, 1966 and 1978. In 2018, he was conferred the Padma Shri.

He was also one of the founder members of Nimapara Autonomous College.A native of Nimapada in Puri district, he had joined the Quit India Movement in 1942. Pattnaik was then studying in Class XI and to contribute to the revolution, he had quit studies. The Gandhian had also spent three-and-a-half years in jail.

Odisha,Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, expressed deep grief at the passing away of veteran freedom fighter and former MP Bhabani Charan Patnaik. They described late Bhabani Patnaik as a great patriot who had dedicated his entire life for the cause of the common man.

 A strong believer of Gandhian principles he was a close associate of Biju Babu. A man of indomitable spirit Bhabani Babu was very active till his death. In his death the Nation lost a true Gandhian and karmayogi,” said Patnaik. The Chief Minister also conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families.

Odisha government has also decided to cremate the veteran freedom fighter with full state honours at Nimapada.
