Ex-MP Bhaskar Rao Quits BJD, Launches ‘Biju Swabhiman Manch’ Amid Political Churn
Rayagada: In a dramatic twist to Odisha’s political landscape, former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP N. Bhaskar Rao announced his resignation from the party on Tuesday, citing growing dissatisfaction with its functioning.
At a press conference in Rayagada, Rao declared his exit from the BJD’s primary membership and unveiled his new political platform, the ‘Biju Swabhiman Manch’, which he says will uphold the legacy and ideals of legendary leader Biju Patnaik.
Rao, a seasoned politician who once represented BJD in Parliament, expressed disillusionment with the party’s recent direction, stating that it had strayed from its founding principles. His departure comes at a time when the BJD is grappling with internal dissent and gearing up for the crucial panchayat elections. The launch of Biju Swabhiman Manch is expected to stir fresh political currents in southern Odisha, especially in Rayagada and surrounding districts where Rao maintains strong grassroots influence. Political observers view this move as a potential challenge to BJD’s dominance in the region.
With Rao’s exit, the BJD faces yet another test of unity and leadership, as rival factions and emerging outfits begin to reshape the state’s electoral battleground.
