Odisha to Recruit 1,840 Doctors and 5,000 Health Workers to Strengthen Rural Care
Bhubaneswar: To strengthen Odisha’s healthcare system, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the recruitment of 1,840 doctors and over 5,000 paramedical staff during a review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan on Monday.
The initiative aims to fill critical vacancies and improve medical services, especially in tribal and remote areas.
Majhi directed officials to rationalise deployment of medical officers and expedite hiring for teaching positions in government medical colleges. Plans to increase postgraduate seats and upgrade infrastructure were also discussed.
Key proposals included establishing Integrated Trauma Care Centres in accident-prone zones and enhancing incentives for doctors serving in hard-to-reach locations. Challenges faced by AYUSH practitioners were acknowledged, with promises of support.
Senior officials including Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja attended the meeting. The recruitment drive is expected to significantly improve healthcare access across Odisha, particularly for underserved communities.
