Police Step Up Patrolling on Gopalpur Beach

BERHAMPUR,( 23/06/2025): Adequate police personnel have been deployed for patrolling of Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district after the alleged gang-rape of a 20-year-old college student on the beach by 10 idiots people.
Currently, Gopalpur police station has only one such vehicle.”Patrolling on ATV has been increased, particularly in isolated and dark areas of the sprawling Gopalpur beach,” told by Berhampur Superintendent of Police , Dr Sarvana Vivek,M. While two more vehicles would be deployed in Gopalpur, one is meant for Sunapur.Police said patrolling in ATV was being conducted before the gang-rape, but police did not notice the accused, the survivor and her male friend, as they were sitting next to a sand heap.
During a visit to the crime scene on Wednesday, Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Gopalpur MLA, emphasised intensification of patrolling on the beach and introduction of more ATVs. Police have sought three more all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) from the govt to bolster patrolling on Gopalpur and Sunapur beaches.
The crime branch’s special wing for crimes against women and children continued its probe into the heinous crime. Police arrested 10 people, including four juveniles, for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape. While all accused are from Purushottampur and Hinjili police limits, the survivor is from outside Ganjam, sources said.
