Ayodhya Ram Temple Head Priest Passes Away

Lucknow: Mahant Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, breathed his last at a hospital in Lucknow on Wednesday morning.

The 85-year-old revered priest was admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow on February 3 following a brain stroke.

In a statement, the hospital authorities said, “Satendra Das ji, chief Priest of Ram Mandir Ayodhya, breathed his last today. He was admitted in HDU (High Dependency Unit) of Neurology ward on February 3 with stroke in critical condition.”

Since the young age of 20 years, Das served as the head priest of the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. He was the priest of the temple during the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. He belonged to the Nirvani Akhara.
