PM Modi Receives Warm Welcome in Paris, Set to Co-Chair AI Summit with Macron

Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, where the two leaders are set to co-chair the third edition of the AI Action Summit. Macron greeted PM Modi with a hug at a special dinner ahead of the high-profile event.

Taking to X, PM Modi shared his excitement, stating, “Delighted to meet my friend, President Macron in Paris.” During the dinner, he also interacted with US Vice President JD Vance, who is attending the AI Summit.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived in Paris for a two-day visit and was received at the airport by French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu.

Members of the Indian diaspora gathered at the airport, chanting “Modi, Modi” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” while playing drums. Thanking them for the grand reception, PM Modi called it a “memorable welcome” and lauded their contributions.

The AI Action Summit, scheduled for Tuesday, will focus on establishing a global framework for AI governance, ensuring transparency and inclusivity. It will also foster international collaboration in AI research and development. The summit has attracted global leaders, including US Vice President JD Vance and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing.

The event comes amid China’s DeepSeek launching an AI model to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT. India co-chairing the summit is seen as a strategic move, reinforcing its role in shaping AI regulations globally, suggest reports.

During his visit, PM Modi will also address the India-France CEO’s Forum alongside Macron and later visit the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille to pay tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I. Additionally, both leaders will hold bilateral talks in Marseille and inaugurate India’s new consulate in the city.
