Odisha to Provide Milk to Students in Mid-Day Meal Scheme For Extra Nutrition
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to provide milk in the mid-day meal given to the school students, said state Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister, Gokulananda Mallik on Tuesday.
Under a pilot project, ‘Gift Milk’, each student will be given 200 millilitres of milk fortified with Vitamins A and D, alongside their daily meals.
This pilot project started in the Rairangpur region of the Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday. According to reports, under this project, at present, 200 millilitres of milk is being provided to 1,184 students of 29 schools in the Rairangpur area.
According to Mallik, the state government plans to extend this scheme to all schools across the state in the future.
On Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu virtually inaugurated Cow Induction, Gift Milk and Market support for Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The GiftMilk program was established by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), India in the year 2016 with the objective of providing nutrition support to children through nutritious products and thereby contribute to help eradication of malnutrition.
