INDIA Bloc Moves No-Confidence Motion Against Jagdeep Dhankhar in Rajya Sabha
New Delhi: The Congress-led INDIA alliance filed a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday, accusing him of partisan conduct in managing House proceedings.
The motion, signed by over 50 MPs from the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, DMK and RJD, was submitted to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated on X (formerly Twitter), “ALL parties belonging to the INDIA group have had no option but formally submit a no-confidence motion against Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for the extremely partisan manner in which he has been conducting proceedings of the Council of States.”
The motion is unlikely to succeed due to the opposition’s lack of numbers in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. As per parliamentary rules, the motion requires a simple majority (50% +1) in both Houses to pass.
Sources from the Trinamool Congress indicated that the opposition prioritised acting on principle over expecting a successful outcome.
