Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Tables Anti-Cheating Bill
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday criticised the previous BJD government for jeopardizing the future of students and youth by allegedly selling government jobs for lakhs of rupees. Majhi made the remarks while presenting the Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, in the state Assembly.
Majhi accused the previous administration of widespread corruption, particularly in government job recruitment. He revealed that Assistant Section Officer (ASO) positions in the Secretariat were sold for Rs 25 to 30 lakh each, undermining the efforts of hard-working and deserving candidates. “The corrupt practices not only ruined the future of young aspirants but also left many bright students frustrated as their efforts and financial investments were wasted,” he said.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the exposure of corruption in the junior engineer exams in 2023, where question papers were allegedly leaked by government officials. Majhi assured the Assembly that such malpractices would no longer be tolerated.
“My government has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. We are committed to transparency and honesty in all government processes,” Majhi stated, warning corrupt officials of severe consequences. He stressed that the new bill would play a key role in eradicating corruption in recruitment, with provisions for imprisonment for those involved in unfair practices.
