Bhubaneswar: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has greenlit the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the country under the Civil and Defence sectors, including eight in Odisha. This move aims to enhance access to quality education, particularly for children of Central Government and Defence personnel.

New KVs in Odisha:

  2. Patnagarh, Bolangir
  3. ITBP Khurda, Khurda
  4. Athmallik, Angul
  5. Kuchinda, Sambalpur

  8. Talcher, Angul

The total estimated budget for this project, including the expansion of one existing KV, stands at ₹5,872.08 crore, spread over eight years from 2025-26. This includes ₹2,862.71 crore for infrastructure and ₹3,009.37 crore for operational costs.

Each new KV generates employment for 63 staff members, creating a total of 5,388 permanent jobs with the addition of 85 KVs and expansion of one existing school. Moreover, construction and related activities are expected to create opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers.

Kendriya Vidyalayas were introduced in 1962 to provide uniform education to children of transferable government employees. With 1,256 functional KVs, including three international branches in Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran, these schools serve approximately 13.56 lakh students nationwide.
