Odisha cabinet Greenlights 200 electric buses to boost Bhubaneswar’s Mo Bus Fleet
Bhubaneswar : In a transformative step for sustainable urban transport, the Odisha state cabinet has approved the addition of 200 new electric buses to the Mo Bus fleet in Bhubaneswar. This landmark decision aims to support the growing need for eco-friendly transportation options, aiming to reduce both air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the city.
Currently, Bhubaneswar’s Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) manages 305 buses in the city and 100 in Rourkela. The planned expansion, featuring Midi AC electric buses, represents a substantial boost for sustainable transit in Odisha’s capital region. This initiative, with an estimated project cost of ₹933 crore over the next decade, will be managed by JBM Ecolife Mobility Private Limited, which will oversee both procurement and operations.
In addition to the bus expansion, the cabinet has also approved a major LED street lighting project for 110 urban local bodies across Odisha. This initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to infrastructure modernization and environmental stewardship, marking a notable advancement in Odisha’s green growth and urban mobility efforts.
