IEMS to monitor reckless driving on Bhubaneswar-Puri road
Puri : An Intelligent Enforcement Management System (IEMS) has been installed to monitor reckless driving on Bhubaneswar-Puri national highway.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena inaugurated the system at Malatipur in Puri on Sunday on the occasion of Rath Yatra.
After the launch of the IEMS on Bhubaneswar-Puri stretch, it will be further extended to Konark and Pipili in Puri district.
The IEMS will automatically identify violators through the use of advance cameras, radar and other technologies and enable authorities to take prompt legal action against them.
The system would identify violations such as speeding, driving without helmets, wrong way driving and reckless driving, said officials.
In the first phase, 548 km of state and national highways have been brought under the IEMS and the department will spend Rs 88 crore over the next five years on this initiative, a senior official said.
The output of IEMS on Rameswar-Panikoili stretch connecting Khordha and Jajpur districts has been encouraging since its functioning in 2021, said the department officials.
