PM Modi Chairs First Cabinet Meeting of 3rd Term, Approves 3 Cr Homes Under PM Awas Yojana

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the inaugural Cabinet meeting of his third term, with the full attendance of NDA allies.

The Cabinet greenlit support for the construction of 3 crore rural and urban dwellings under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Launched in 2015-16, PMAY aims to aid eligible rural and urban households in building homes with essential amenities.

Over the past decade, PMAY has overseen the completion of 4.21 crore houses for deserving families. These homes are equipped with basic facilities like household toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and functional taps, often through collaborative efforts with Central and State Government schemes.

The Cabinet decided to extend assistance to an additional 3 crore rural and urban households, addressing the growing housing needs among eligible families. Presently, a meeting is underway at the PM’s official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, attended by all 30 cabinet ministers, including representatives from alliance parties.

Discussions on portfolio allocations are anticipated between the PM and ministers, with an aim for continuity by retaining key officials in their respective segments.

Of the 72-member Union Council of Ministers, NDA allies occupy 11 positions, including five Cabinet, two Ministers of State with independent charge, and the remaining as Ministers of State.
