GM(I/C) OF EAST COAST RAILWAY M K BEHERA TO ADDRESS SEVERAL CHALLENGES IN RAYAGADA
Badal Tah,Odishabarta,Rayagada, April 7: Mahesh Kumar Behera, an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), has taken over the charge of General Manager (I/C) of East Coast Railway (ECoR). A graduate of the University College of Engineering, Burla in Civil Engineering and M.Tech in Ocean Engineering from IIT, Madras, Shri Behera’s extensive academic background complements his rich experience spanning over three decades in Railway working.
Throughout his career, Behera has held key positions such as Chief Bridge Engineer and Chief Engineer (Bridge Rehabilitation) in ECoR. Noteworthy roles include his tenure as Group General Manager at Rites, Bhubaneswar and Chief Engineer (Construction) overseeing the Ganga Bridge project under East Central Railway at Patna & Munger. He worked in critical posts such as Sr. Divisional Engineer (Co-Ordination) in Sambalpur, Dy.Chief Vigilance Officer in ECoR and Dy.Chief Engineer (Con) in NF Railway.
Though Rayagada Divisional Railway Manager’s(DRM) office is progressing at a snail’s speed, it is expected that Behera lives upto the aspirations of Rayagadians. Therubali-Gunupur rail line is a long-standing demand. An overbridge near Sai International hotel is the need of the hour. Transferring a piece of land in front of Seva Samaj near Koraput Chowk for the purpose of a Smart Bus Stand has been proposed by the local denizens. Revamping railway underpasses near Maa Majhighariani Temple has to be completed on a war footing basis. Rayagada Citizens’ Association & Rayagada Servitors’ Federation have appealed to exchange a piece of land near overbridge. Though Rayagada Collector has recommended to take needful action, Railways is yet to respond. Similar is the case of the approach road near Majhighariani temple for which Rayagada Collector has approached DRM-Waltair to exchange the railway land but in vain.
“DRM-Waltair has to proact on a plethora of issues for the development of Rayagada. Just initiating DRM project in Rayagada will not suffice the purpose, if related actions are not meted out. Steps taken by Rayagada District Collector for the development of Rayagada must be complemented to realize an integrated upliftment of this region. This has to be an inclusive process”, rued Ranjan Rath, a senior scribe and servitor of Rayagada.
