Arvind Kejriwal To Remain In ED Custody Till March 28 In Liquor Policy Case

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for six days by the Rouse Avenue Court in the Delhi liquor policy case. He is set to remain in custody until March 28, with a court appearance scheduled for 2 pm on that day. The agency had sought custody of the Aam Aadmi Party supremo for 10 days.

The ED claimed that Kejriwal acted as a middleman between the ‘South group’ and other accused individuals, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP officer Vijay Nair. The agency alleges that proceeds from the scam exceeded ₹600 crore, with a reported ₹100 crore paid by the ‘South group’.

According to Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, funds amounting to Rs 45 crore for the Goa elections were traced through four hawala routes. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, opposed the remand, stressing the necessity for the arrest and highlighting the unprecedented nature of a sitting Chief Minister’s arrest, along with four leaders from his party. He questioned the evidence against Kejriwal and criticized the agency’s approach.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal’s legal team withdrew a Supreme Court plea challenging his arrest, considering the court’s recent response to a similar plea by Kavitha.

Kejriwal was arrested following the Delhi High Court’s refusal to grant him protection from arrest on Thursday.
