Environment-cum-Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP) 2023 at Utkal Alumina

Rayagada:Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL)a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries limited of Aditya Birla Group had conducted Environment-cum-Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP) on 20th November in association with Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists (SGAT) to spread awareness about mining practices among students and teachers of nearby vicinity.

SGAT is a non-profit professional body dedicated to promotion of mineral development activities in India. It has been annually organisingEMAP for students of High Schools in the different Mining areas of the State since the year 1990. The 2023-year edition of EMAP was a day long programme organized atUAILwhich witnessed participation of 14 schools from plant and mining periphery of UAIL.

This initiative not only spreads awareness among the students about their surrounding but also nurtures their pre-existing skills and encourages them to pursue a career in mining industry.

The day-long programme started with a Refinery visit for the students and teachers followed by competitions like Essay Writing, Mineral Identification and Quiz.

It was a robust competition among Students from Aditya Birla Public School, Government High School (Maikanch) and Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir (Tikiri) wherein they enthralled the crowd with their outstanding performances.

Chief Guests Shri J. N. Das (Retd. Dy. Director General, GSI) and Shri Khitish Pattnaik (Retd. Jt. Director, DMG) enlightened the gathering with awareness talks on minerals and environment.

Mr. Vijay Dhanuka (Head, Engineering, UAIL), Mr. Mukesh Kumar Jha (Head, Mines, UAIL) Ms. Lopamudra Mishra (Head, CSR& CR, UAIL) andMr. Krishna Jyotishi (Head, Geology, UAIL) were among the distinguished guests whopresided over the felicitation ceremony and congratulated the participants.
